Bicycle Rental – Affordable Means of Exploring Boracay, Philippines

When you visit Boracay, you should know that the world famous beaches are not the only things to see on the island.

About half a million foreign tourists visit Boracay each year and almost as many local visitors but the natural beauty of Boracay is still well preserved. There are a lot of scenic places around the island which are well worth visiting and exploring.

There are several ways to explore the island; one can go horseback riding, trekking or by renting an ATV, a speedboat and more, but the most affordable of all is by renting a bike from one of the bicycle rental stores in the area.

Bicycle Rental Shops

If you want to go biking, you can rent a bike from different bicycle rental shops on the island. A lot of bike rental shops can be found throughout White Beach. You can find more shops also at other beaches and the nearby areas. Some resorts have their own rentals; you may rent a bike from them too.

Bike Rental Cost

Normally, bicycle rental ranges from $1 to $2 an hour. However, if you are renting the bicycle for a much longer time, you can ask for discount especially if you are renting it for the whole day.

Destinations

The island stretches nearly 16 miles and offers various terrains and paths that a cyclist may choose to pass.

If you are looking for a more intense ride, you can bike up to Mount Luho, the highest peak on the island. You will have to pass through the treacherous route but your effort will be rewarded with the magnificent view from the top. Biking down the mountain is almost as exciting as climbing it. On your way down, you will pass through some villages, get to meet the people there and see their way of living.

By means of bicycle rental shops, you get a chance to visit and explore any of the secluded beaches on the island too, where you can relax and unwind.

On your way back to the hotel, you can bike along the coastline if it’s not high tide.

Tips

If it’s your first time in Boracay, you can hire a guide. Sometimes, there are local residents who are offering their services for a minimal charge but to be safe, get an accredited guide from your hotel or resort or from where you rented the bike. The fee is a bit higher of course. However, if you choose to bike on your own, getting yourself a map would help a lot. Maps are available at the tourist information center.

The most ideal time to tour the island on a bike is before sunrise or late in the afternoon, when the sun is no longer intense, plus you get to appreciate also the sunset. However, if you want to go cycling at noon, don’t forget to wear sunglasses, bring sun block lotion and wear hat as protection from the heat of the sun. There is not much shading on most of the routes that you will use.

Through bicycle rental shops, tourists can tour the island in a very relaxed manner and they won’t spend much for such adventure.
